TDT/TDT concrete pump inspection – legal requirements and practical guide
Legal basis
The obligation for technical inspection of concrete pumps derives from:
- Polish Technical Supervision Act (Journal of Laws 2023, pos. 1622) – art. 4, 5, 14
- EN 12001:2012 – safety requirements for equipment for the conveyance of concrete
Machines covered: all boom pumps, trailer pumps over 40 m3/h, truck mixer pumps used commercially.
What the TDT inspector checks
- Documentation review – service records for the past 2 years, machine passport, operator manual in Polish
- Visual inspection – coating condition, all boom welds, stabilizer attachments, hydraulic hoses
- NDT testing – magnetic particle testing (MT) or visual testing (VT) of critical weld areas
- Hydraulic pressure test – 1.25 × MOP for 10 minutes
- Safety device testing – load limiter, tilt sensor, stabilizer locks, emergency STOP
Most common reasons for failing TDT
- Boom weld cracks (not visible without MT) – 40% of cases
- Defective safety devices – 25%
- Missing or incomplete service documentation – 20%
- Hydraulic system leaks – 10%
- Excessive wear in boom pins and bearings – 5%
