Types of concrete pumps – technical guide

1. Boom Pump

Mounted on truck chassis with folding arm 28-65 m. Most popular type for general construction.

Typical specifications:

• Boom length: 28–65 m
• Output: 60–180 m3/h
• Max concrete pressure: 85–150 bar
• Max aggregate size: 40–50 mm

Service notes: Boom requires mandatory NDT weld inspection every 2 years (TDT). Pin clearances must be checked every 500h – excessive play causes resonance and accelerated fatigue cracking.

2. Trailer/Line Pump

No boom – operates with steel pipeline installed on site. Best for tunnels, deep basements, very tall buildings and large volume pours.

Typical specifications:

• Output: 30–150 m3/h
• Max concrete pressure: 150–350 bar
• Max horizontal pipeline length: up to 1,200 m
• Max vertical height: up to 350 m

Service notes: High-pressure systems (>200 bar) require more frequent cylinder and piston checks – every 300-400 hours.

3. Truck Mixer Pump

Combines concrete mixer (3-7 m3) with pump (15-35 m3/h) on single vehicle.

Typical use: Single-family houses, prefabrication, floor pours, repair works.

Service notes: Requires both mixer and pump servicing. TDT inspection is mandatory, same as boom pumps.
