In Brief
Mecbo concrete pump service at PHS Magnum, Chorula near Opole. Mecbo is a high-pressure specialist — the brand of choice for tunnel works, sewer construction, long-distance pours, and high-value concrete mixes. We carry out hydraulic repairs, cylinder and valve reconditioning, anti-clogging system servicing, on-site mobile service, and TDT inspections. Parts are sourced directly from Italy; the most common items are held in pre-stock.
Mecbo — The High-Pressure Specialist
Mecbo Srl (near Bologna, Italy, founded 1972) is an Italian manufacturer specialising in high-pressure pumps. Defining characteristics: operating pressures of up to 300–350 bar (versus the standard 180–220 bar), high resilience under demanding conditions, and a focus on tunnel and sewer applications.
Mecbo is not the most widely known brand in Poland — Putzmeister and Schwing dominate the standard market. But for specialist applications (tunnels, long-distance pours, high-value concrete) Mecbo is frequently the right choice.
PHS Magnum services Mecbo for advanced-application operators. Direct contact with the manufacturer in Italy allows us to source parts and technical support efficiently.
Models Covered
Trailer-Mounted Pumps (Line Pumps)
- Towed pumps connected to a fixed pipeline
- Construction optimised for high operating pressures
- Many models equipped with the ®PULSAR system
Stationary Pumps on Chassis
- High-pressure pumps mounted on a wheeled chassis
- Higher output capacities
Mixer-Pumps (Mix-and-Pump Units)
- Combined mixing and pumping function in a single machine
- Ideal for dispersed or remote work sites
Tunnel and Sewer Pumps
- Specialist pumps for underground applications
- Very compact footprint (fits within a standard tunnel cross-section)
- High pressures with long pipeline runs
- Anti-clogging systems (blockage detection and prevention)
Mecbo Service Characteristics
High Operating Pressures = Accelerated Wear
Continuous operation at 250–300 bar places greater mechanical stress on every hydraulic component:
- Concrete cylinders — faster internal surface wear (reconditioning every 30,000–50,000 m³ vs 50,000–80,000 m³ for standard pumps)
- Rubber pistons — more frequent replacement (every 15,000–25,000 m³ vs 20,000–40,000 m³)
- Hydraulic seals — require more careful monitoring
- High-pressure valves — specialist materials (hardened steel, tungsten carbide at critical wear points on certain models)
Maintenance Specifics
Mecbo demands rigorous service intervals:
- 250 engine-hour service — hydraulic oil change (shorter cycle than the standard 500 hours)
- Hydraulic pressure check every 100 engine hours
- Filter replacement every 250 engine hours (vs 500 hours for standard pumps)
- Seal inspection every 6 months (vs 12 months)
Neglecting Mecbo’s service schedule leads to more costly major overhauls (full hydraulic system reconditioning).
Mecbo vs Standard Pumps — Operating Comparison
The table below summarises the key differences in service intervals and component life between Mecbo and standard-pressure pumps. All values reflect the consequences of higher operating pressures, which drive more frequent maintenance and faster component wear.
| Item | Mecbo (high pressure) | Standard pump |
|---|---|---|
| Operating pressure | 250–300 bar (up to 350) | 180–220 bar |
| Cylinder reconditioning | every 30,000–50,000 m³ | every 50,000–80,000 m³ |
| Rubber piston replacement | every 15,000–25,000 m³ | every 20,000–40,000 m³ |
| Hydraulic oil change | every 250 engine hours | every 500 engine hours |
| Filter replacement | every 250 engine hours | every 500 engine hours |
| Seal inspection | every 6 months | every 12 months |
For general guidance on piston replacement timing, see our article when to replace pistons in a concrete pump; for pre-season preparation, see concrete pump inspection before the season.
Anti-Clogging Systems (Tunnel Models)
In long pipelines (over 200 m) the risk of concrete blockage is significant. Mecbo tunnel pumps are equipped with pipeline pressure sensors, output monitoring, and automatic backflushing (periodic brief reversal of pumping direction to agitate the concrete in the line).
PHS Magnum diagnoses and services these systems, which requires familiarity with Mecbo’s original technical documentation.
Parts Availability — A Specialist Risk
Mecbo has no office in Poland. All parts are sourced from Italy:
- Standard items (filters, pistons, oils, generic seals): 7–14 working days
- Specialist high-pressure components (valves, hardened elements): 2–4 weeks
- Very non-standard items (e.g. bespoke boom sections): 4–12 weeks
PHS Magnum’s approach:
- Ongoing relationship with a Mecbo distributor for group orders (better pricing and faster delivery)
- Pre-stock of the most commonly needed parts (pistons, standard filters) held at our Chorula depot
- Advance notification for planned services, ordered 2–4 weeks ahead
Mecbo Mobile Service
A Mecbo pump used in tunnel construction cannot always be transported to the workshop — the service often has to be carried out on site (in the tunnel or at a site camp). PHS Magnum offers mobile Mecbo service:
- Travel to the work site (Poland and up to 200–300 km abroad)
- Full on-site diagnostics
- Replacement of standard components (pistons, oils)
- Minor hydraulic repairs
What requires our Chorula workshop (pump transport needed): cylinder reconditioning, high-pressure valve repair, bodywork, TDT inspection.
