Concrete Cylinders

S-Valve

The key element that distributes the concrete flow.

Cylinder: Recondition or Replace — Decision Path

  1. Measure wear — assess bore surface wear on the diameter.
  2. Wear 0.5–2 mm — reconditioning: hone to oversize (+0.5/+1.0/+1.5 mm) and fit matched pistons; 1-2 working days.
  3. Wear above 2 mm, scoring, corrosion, deformation — cylinder replacement; genuine part delivery 7-14 working days.
  4. Post-repair check — verify piston-to-cylinder fit and sealing.

Certified OEM-equivalent parts (from leading German or Polish manufacturers) offer comparable quality at 20-40% lower cost than genuine parts. The downsides: no Putzmeister AG warranty (relevant during the factory warranty period), and returns or exchanges are more complex. We use aftermarket parts for: older machines out of warranty, fleet operators with their own maintenance programmes, and wear items where the quality difference is minimal.

Typically every 20,000–40,000 m³ of concrete pumped. Earlier replacement (15,000–25,000 m³) is advisable with: sharp-edged aggregates (basalt gravel), high operating temperatures, or aggressive chemical admixtures. Warning signs: reduced pumping output, oil entering the concrete circuit (or vice versa), audible mechanical banging.

HB600 hard-facing weld repair is a proven method for S-valves with light to moderate wear — it restores the working surface in 1-2 working days and costs considerably less than a new valve. For heavily worn or cracked valves we recommend outright replacement. The decision is made after inspecting the valve in person.
